Quantico's new Albert J. Rose Air Rescue and Fire Fighting Station, as seen from the airfield. The Potomac River in the background. And as seen from the river. Our hosts. The orange hoses are used to suck the exhaust fumes out of the running trucks and vent it outdoors, so the Marines don't have to inhale diesel soot while they're checking the trucks. Eric .. The person sitting with Kenny Borgs? It's not John Vincent .. It's Pete Cusimano. I was stationed with both John & Pete at Iwakuni until I was sent to MAG 16 Khe Sahn. The picture just above Bill Young standing outside of Cross Roads Inn, Is Dale Swanson! He has a White Tee shirt on and is wearing glasses. Was with him at Iwakuni also. Picture just below Bill Taylor & Roger peck (SUV behind them) standing outside of Cross Roads Inn. Is Joe Mehaffey (He istanding out side cross roads. Has a tan button down shirt & shorts on) Not to sound repetative, but I was with Joe in Iwakuni as well. Oscar was our OIC there. and too my surprise while up at khe Sahn, Oscar came to MAG 16 Marble Mt and was my OIC there. He was in OIC for Marble MT, Phu Bai, Dong Ha & Khe Sahn at that time. Joe Post was my S/Sgt while I was at Iwakuni, Larry Ritter (Just had bad stroke) was my buddy at Iwakuni. He and I both went to Nam at the same time. He went to Chu lai and I went to Khe Sahn. Roger Peck was also with us at iwakuni as was Teddy howard, who only made it for Saturday at CC. (Yep .. It was an Iwakuni 66 - 67 group reunion)
I hope you all had a great time! And to answer Joe Donnelly's Question about why not a reunion every year? (Would I like to see that .. You bet i would Joe! God that would be great!)
Several reasons why we don't. (1) It's a lot of work setting them up. (2) COST .. Many people just can't afford it, they save their money during the time gap between reunions. (3) We are still trying to get those on the west coast who promised that they would get a chapter started out there, to get off their duffs and keep their promises. Should they do that, We would have a reunion every year. Odd years east coast, even years west coast. This would open it up to many more people. Many on the west coast cannot affor the travel expense to the east coast and those who do fly in save $$ for the two years, so they can make it.
I think all of us do agree with you Joe .. It'd be "GREAT" to have them every year, but for the above reasons .. we have to stay with the two year interval.
God Bless all you AFFR Marines, and may he keep you and your loved ones, safe, happy and above all healthy!

Yes Phil you are right about the west coast not forming an association. I believe George Trotter is trying to get one together again. We wish him luck. I sujested we have a Reunion every year for pure selfish reasons. Now that I have seen old friends and met alot of new ones I would like to see them more often. There are a few that will be comming to Beaufort next year to my house. We will tour both bases. Everyone is welcome here at any time and I will be more than happy to show them around. Just want to keep in touch with everyone. As we all know it sucks getting older. I thing we should be born old and get young. HAHAHAHAHA Doesn' make any sence does it. Enouth rambling, Everyone stay healthy any keep in touch. That's what our site is for. Everyone please take a couple of minutes to just say HELLO. We all like to hear from friends. Howdy, all.
Phil, thanks for the giving me the word on the correct names in the above photos. I've made the necessary changes.
Walter Pynn called me a couple days ago, and he also expressed interest in starting a West Coast chapter, with reunions alternating with the East Coast reunions. If it were to happen, I would attend both. I have lots of friends out there who can't get away for a cross-country jaunt.

Hi all .. Phil Wipperman here. I spoke with Walt Pynn for about an hour several days ago. He is trying to get ideas as to what he will need to do to start the west coast chapter. So I explained what they (He or others) will need to do .. Depending on whether they wish to be a chapter of our already Legally Chartered Association (and called USMC/AFFR/WEST). This would save them legal fees and let them operate through us (Who will be USMC/AFFR/EAST). They could (if they choose too) have their own Board members, Pres, Vice Pres & Secretary. Treasurer .. (Treasurer only if they wish to go it alone.)
They would not need a Treasurer or need to set up a checking account .. they would operate under our Charter & use our Treasurer until they grow enough to Charter them self $$$ through California (or whatever West Coast State they choose). There are a number of other scenarios they could try (use to start). We discussed those as well. But .. I think for the most part .. The important thing here?? Is that we get it up and running as quick as possible .. and with a little luck .. A 2006 reunion out there!
I will let him know about John H. (is that John Hewitt???) and George Trotter also interested in doing this! Between the three of them .. There is the first board members (if they want to be) .. and they'd be the people needed to set up the first (in many years) reunion out there!
They would not need a Treasurer or need to set up a checking account .. they would operate under our Charter & use our Treasurer until they grow enough to Charter them self $$$ through California (or whatever West Coast State they choose). I explained a little bit about what is reimbursable expenses .. That they would get reimbursed for. Lots more to discuss with them .. I'm sure once they all talk .. They can get with Bill Young and get a more defined explanation of what they will need to do.
Lets keep our fingers crossed and with a little luck and a lot of hard work on both their's and our part .. We will get this off the ground in 2006!
Anybody else out there (west coast) that is interested in helping .. PLEASE .. Let all the above mentioned people know .. They (we) will need all the help we can get!
