Following our Friday evening meet-and greet at the Quantico reunion, Fritz Weinreich passed out and fell in the elevator at Crossroads Inn, suffering a heart attack. CPR was administered right away, and the MCB Quantico Fire Department responded quickly, working for several minutes to stabilize Fritz before transporting him to the hospital in Stafford, Va. Being completely unresponsive ever since, with the doctors reporting that recovery was not possible, Rose Marie and daughter Heidi agreed to allow the doctors to remove Fritz from life support. Fritz passed away about seven minutes later, at 1:20 pm Tuesday. As said by other members, if he had to go, Fritz found the right time, being surrounded by his loving wife and his Marine buddies. Many thanks are due to Bruce Baszner and family for caring for Rose Marie in their home until Heidi arrived from California. Rose Marie went back home to New York this morning. Funeral services will be held Saturday October 31, 2009 at Chase Funeral Home 737 Chenango Street Binghamton, NY 13901 The AFFR Association will be sending a floral arrangement. No doubt, cards and letters from Fritz and Rose Marie's friends would be welcomed and apprecitated. On a personal note, I attended my first AFFR reunion in 2003 at Cherry Point. I hadn't met a single AFFR member at that point, and arrived a bit early not knowing who or what to expect. Fritz and Rose Marie immediately recognized me as a new face and invited me to sit with them at their table, welcoming me as a long-lost Brother. Fritz was my first friend in the AFFR Assocation, and I will miss him.
