Hello everyone, I found this board while searching for CFR info.
I am currently depped in for the USMC and with MOS field 70.
The job that I want is definatley Aircraft Firefighting and Rescue. But there are 2 other jobs in the field as well. One is Aviation operations, and the other is aircraft recovery.
From my understanding avaition ops is an office job where you fax documents all day. Im not quite sure about the aircraft recovery and what they do.
My question for you guys is how hard is it to secure the job I want? This may be an odd question, but I've had my heart set on being a fireman, and would be dissapointed if I got stuck in an office somewhere.
Any feedback would be appreciated, thanks.

Aaron;
Just wanted to let you know from an old timer it use to be all you had to do was request the 7051 field. Not everyone wants it or qualifies for it, but if you want to be a firefighter, then I think you have what it takes to become one of the elite. Once you get into CFR the skys the limit on training and advancement, not only while in the Corps but after you leave. Don't get me wrong, it's not a cake walk, you will earn everthing you get, but what you strive for and get will always be a benifit to you, and you will always be part of the CFR family and maintain presious memories forever! I hope some younger CFR Marine in the family can shed more light on this. Either way, Good Luck, and we would be proud to have you in our family....

Tell your recruiter that's what you want, and make sure it's on your enlistment contract BEFORE you ship to boot camp.
This is one of the few times in government service where you can dictate what you will or will not do. Get everything in writing on your Enlistment Contract. If it isn't, tell your recruiter you won't go. Then he'll make it happen.
Once you ship to boot camp, it's too late. You're at the disposal of the Marine Corps then.

Aaron, Make sure you don't sign anything before you get CFR on paper. You haven't sign anything yet have you ? Larry K I have been sworn in for the DEP. The Marine running USMC liaison over at the MEPS told me that he got me the field. But I don't think he meant the job. So is it too late for me to request a specific job, instead of a field?
