We had a large time at the Crash Crew. Quantico has a brand-new barn, which was dedicated in March 2004 and named in honor of Albert Rose (KIA in RVN).
Ignore the wrong dates on the photos. It was actually the 15th.
The new barn is across the runway from the old location, which has been torn down to build V-22 Osprey hangars. That construction is already underway. The new Crash Barn is just across the street from the Potomac River
and has all the comforts of a real Fire Station, even a real kitchen. It's a long way from the dusty old barns we used to know. Reckon there'll be any fishing on weekends?
The Crash Crew Marines at Quantico did a bang-up job of putting together a demonstration and static displays of P-19s and their new Rescue truck, which replaced the P-10s. (Sorry I don't have photos of the demonstration, I had left my camera at the Crossroads Inn and had to go back for it.)
The Marines even cooked up hundreds of burgers and hotdogs for us tourists, which I'm sure involved getting the fire started at an ungodly early hour.
Then they threw open the doors and let us wander all over creation, as they answered questions and explained techniques for dealing with the new equipment and aircraft.
On a personal note, the NCOIC, MSgt Billy Knowles is of my vintage, having joined the Corps about a year before me. We didn't know each other from active duty, but we knew a lot of the same people. Small Corps.
Thanks again to the Marines at ARFF Quantico for putting up with us tourists. A large time was had by all.
