Wanted to answer your question. Some folks will tell you that AFFR MOS is not the field you should go into, but having over 20 years in the field, let me tell you one thing, we are family and everyone of use is PROUD of the job we did! It takes a certain type of Marine to do the job we did and do. To get to carry the title of Crash Fire Rescue, it takes alot of hard work and training, and this training just keeps coming at you during your career, it's never over. You have to maintain certifications of all types. One thing about it Joe, if you don't make it a career, there are alot of departments on the outside who would like to have you on their team. It is a very professional organization. To make a long story short, I am very honored to be a CFR and to know the folks and be part of their family. Since retirement my learning experience in CFR has make me what I am today. Good Luck in your career, and hope you make the right choice, and hope that choice is CFR.

Joe Lemons, I also want to give an answer to your question. I want to Ditto Ron's answer. Your not only a Fire Fighter, but part of a family. I don't know if I can tell you a typical day in AFF. I know you must keep up your equipment and your truck. You are a Marine and must maintain being a Marine 24/7. But you contuine to train and when you learned it you must train the next man. When the bell rings you will be ready to do a job a lot of men fear to face. Lives depend on you and your training. And its a good feeling when its done. Fire Fighting is a proud profession weather Aviation or structrual. As far as not being the best MOS. It depends on who you talk to. Ask some of those people who got help from FDNY after 9/11 and see what they say. In any case its what you want to do in life not someone else. I,m glad I went Crash, Fire and Rescue. I.m glad I was an Instructor AVCC School, Millington. What ever you do, Good Luck and Semper Fi Larry K. kpoppop@aol.com

Joe,
I servered in the corp and Crash Crew for 4 Years 1972-1976. When I got out I became a firefighter at Wright Patterson AFB and after 29 1/2 years I have retired. I know that the training and leadership I received in the corp was the most valuable training and experience I ever got. It may be tedious and boring at times but believe me it does change in a moments notice. When you come out of Boot Camp and go to San Angilo, Texas for school at Goodfellow AFB it will be the best training you will receive and if you are good enough to last the three months of training and can graduate you will be just as qulified as any new firefighter in any city starting out so trust me, it isn't a bad field to be in. Drop me an e-mail and let me know what you think after you get through the training. If you have any questions feel free to ask as I have gone to every course at Goodfellow AFB. My e-mail mikebrumfield@prodigy.net good luck.

I was in crash crew for quite a few years and wheh I retired from the Corps I never went back into firefighting but I really missed it. Once you have fought your first aircraft fire or any fire it gets in your blood. Not everyone can do it. That is why we are a proud bunch of fire eaters. Good luck and SEMPER FI JOE DONNELLY

hi, I am new to this forum, but after reading this question, i felt compelled to reply, so here it is. I am not sure who told you 7051 was not a very good mos, but i can assure you whoever told you that was probably never in crash crew. I was in from 97 to 2003 as a 7051 and i could not think of a more rewarding, challenging, or fun mos in our beloved Corps (aside from 0311 on the streets of Iraq!). Every day i went to work at crash crew was a happy day for me. you will recieve some awsome training at goodfellow AFB in TX, which has THE BEST fire academy in the country. it is a truly exciting and rewarding career field, and you will never find a tighter group than the Marines of crash crew. I loved every day of it and i truly miss it. i still keep in touch with about 70% of the Marines i have served with, and most of them are still in and still love it. I would still be in, but an injury while on a cax put me out of the Corps for good. if you want to know what your daily routine will be, or any other questions you might have, do not hesitate to e-mail me at firedog974@comcast.net. if you need, i will e-mail you my phone # and you can give me a call and try to answer any questions you may have. If i dont have the answer, i will find someone who does. you crash, we dash you burn, we learn john hardin

Joe, Like the others have said; "Whoever told you Crash Crew was a bad MOS either was never in it or got booted out" which in the old days was hard to do. ha. I served from 76-80 and it was the most fun an enlisted guy could have and stay out of the brig. There is no finer MOS in the Corps. Just this morning my best friend in the world, left my house to retun to his home in St. Louis. We met each other at crash school in Millington Tn. in 1976 (sitting on the crapper across from each other) and spent our entire 4 years together. We still tell the same CC stories and laugh just as hard about them as the day they happened. Any young person that I speak to who is enlisting in the Corps I try to steer them to Crash Crew. My oldest son is a Marine Officer and my second will commission in May. Both of them tell me after hearing their Uncle Joe and I talk about CC all these years, they feel like they are missing something by not being enlisted and being in Crash Crew. Go for it son, you will never regret it!
