Joed47/JoeD- Thanks on such fast service! I will send you a check as soon as I receive the coins! All-received the Newsletter today-I plan to help swanny/Dale-in any way I can in developing a 'West Coast Chapter, within the overall organization-Now is the time for 'Forming'? Have to determine who should be included? Plus some, like myself want to be in both! For All of you who served at "CHU-LAI",I spelled it right this time;plus I looked up some info on the site ? MAG-12 was listed there first w/A-4's; which had to operate on 4,000ft.steel matted runway having a SATS for landing ,w/all the steel cables to stop the aircraft-Hence, your land based 'Carrier', however for takeoffs the A-4's needed JATO to launch;then later came the 'Cats'? Evidently MAG-13 came to the base at a later time? Question: What was 'CHU-LAI WEST' shown as a 10K foot concrete runway & secure parking areas for aircraft;this had to be late in deployment on that base? Interest from a historical perspective? Take Care-Semper Fi-RichW/43

The 10k runway was MAG-13 which was CHU-LAI west. I was at CHU-LAI on the matting runway. I was there from Sept. 66 until April 68. I was also stationed with the Amercal Division on top of the hill. I was a section leader with there Fire Dept. Semper Fi JoeD.

"To All 140 Members of this Forum"- I have gone out to see 'Swanny-Dale Swanson' in California, for discussions on 'Starting a West Coast Chapter of this organization; to which I also wish to be a member-I will work with both East & West! What I am asking each of you who are west of the Mississippi River, who might be interested in joining a new group within our USMC AFFR ? This too would be open to those in the East, who would like to also be a member? I am new to this organization, having joined in October 2007 & I attended the Reunion-From what I understand, Only Dale represented the West there? NOW is the time to form that WEST Chapter? Why can't it get up & be viable in 2008? Please contact Dale if interested?-RichW/43

West Coast Chapter-as you all know by now,the 'Quarterly News Letter' from President Bill Young, shows where he talked about the subject & what is needed to create a Chapter? An Updated Rooster will be needed or at least the Add-Ons which have been created since the last issuance of the document. Looking through what I have currently, is a Listing as of 02/01/07, (from Phil) which covers 10 pages of addresses of the members. It would be helpful if new addresses could be given? Thank You. Please contact Dale or me if you are interested? For us 'Old timers'-"Gung Ho" /Semper Fidelis-RichW/43

Eric sounds like your game for any excuse to jump on that bike of yours! But I think it would be great if we could get this west coast chapter started. What if we put an announcement in Leatherneck magazine?....Dale

Dale/JoeD / & all-Gone to be some interesting around here starting late tonight?Rain to Snow. Eric -bad time for your 'Bike'! Yes, I believe anything positive on advertising the Forming of a West Coast Chapter' should be used-it must also ask for Active Duty Regulars & Reserves,as well as Former 6461/7051MOS,Crash Fire Fighters & Rescueman. Does anyone know how many are currently holding a West Coast address, within the AFFR Assn.? Swanny, mentioned to me while out there;"Someone Go in an present the program to MCAS,Camp Pendleton & Miramar ,where one tries to recruit active personnel there?" That sounds like a good follow-up after publishing something? We also need to have an effort to hit all us AFFR personnel & anyone they may know? Leatherneck, may be one of the best ways to get our message out? All,I can say is Charge !-Semper Fi-RichW/43

JoeD-The 'Pony Express' arrived today, with the merchandise! Thanks, again! $ will be sent your way!! Appreciate your effort for me! Dale-Also,today I helped the 'Pony Express',by sending out a couple of CD's ,showing Photos! Will have to put another trip to Southern California in the works again? Will let you know, once I know when my son,Steve, who currently is in South Korea is headed on leave & going back to his home in Las Vegas? I am planning to fly out there then & would come on out from there. I am talking in the early May time frame?- Remember ,old bases on the 'Coast' had their time & personnel- "El Toro" & "Tustin"? Plus, those that are Active like "Kaneohe Bay,Yuma & 29 Palms" At a time we will need to hit them also! THE WEST COAST CHAPTER's time had come?- The CrazyOld Man-RichW/43

Since I'm "NEW",I guess its my turn for Smudge Pots?-RichW/43
