Hi, Folks.
I just got off the phone with Bill Young. He got home from the hospital last week and is feeling better every day.
He's still kind of weak, but is walking without a walker and is working to rebuild his endurance.
He said he has received scads of cards and e-mails and is trying to get them organized and answered.
So far, so good!

Joe, anytime a Veteran is treated well by The System, it is a good thing.
It is because of Vietnam Veterans fighting for better healthcare that today's wounded vets are getting better benefits. Instead of being bitter, you should be congratulating yourself that your efforts have paid off.

Joe, Happy for your grandson, that he wasn't injured more and that he will recieve compensation, sorry for the crap we have to go through. I to have ringing in the ears but i must prove that it was a result of Viet Nam.
To our GUEST, You must not be a Viet Nam vet or you would understand what Joe ment. We were not brought home to a heros reception, but rather to a spit in your face reception. We still don't recieve the respect that is do. I feel sorry for all who must be in any war, but Viet Nam vets,as a rule, take it the skivies.

Joe (and Terry), I have heard horror stories about the VA and the way Veterans were treated by them (and others) after Vietnam. It was dead wrong. I grew up in the 70's, seeing the way VN Vets were treated, and I hated the public for it. One of the reasons I joined the Marines was to show support for Vietnam Vets, to prove that I believed in America, and not in hippies and subversives who would trash our troops while they (troops) were fighting for the very Freedom the hippies take for granted (while risking nothing to get it).
There were still a few Vietnam Veterans on Active Duty when I was in the Corps, and we practically worshipped those guys. Sergeant Major Kellogg was the 1st MEB SgtMaj while I was there. He had received the Medal of Honor for throwing himself on a grenade, and lived to tell the tale. He was like a god to us 19-20 year-old Lance Coolies.
But please don't hold your grandson's disability against him. He was just doing his job, like you were 40 years ago. Things are different now, thanks to Vietnam Veterans who refused to settle for the way they were treated.
To add... I would hardly call this current war "popular".

Just for the record I'm not mad at my grandson. It's the system. Not so long ago we got together and had to help one of our brothers by begging the system to help him. It's the unfair way they handle things. As always thank you all for your commets. I never got screwed but we all know people that did. JoeD
