Although his bio says he was in the Army first, Chuck Connors served as a Chief Warrant Officer and flew combat missions in an F-4U Corsair in Marine Corps VMF-222 in the Solomons in the spring and summer of 1944. Our father was a commissioned officer in that unit and we have a squadron photo. Our father is in the upper left hand corner and Chuck Connors is kneeling in the bottom right hand corner. Dad passed away in 1988, but told me several times that Connors was a pretty good pilot for a non-com.
