The election results were announced at the reunion last week, but I'll summarize for those who couldn't make it and just can't wait for the next newsletter. ;D
Reunions will continue to be held every other year (odd numbers). That gives a west coast chapter the opportunity to get started and have reunions on even numbered years.
Oscar Shaw is our new Association Vice President.
Phil Wipperman walked away with the Secretary election, but while we were still counting the votes Friday afternoon, Dale Swanson told Bill, Ed, and I that he (Dale) had just talked with Rosemary Wipperman, and that Phil was back in the hospital, sedated and on a ventilator, and not expected to live much longer.
Bill Young had been performing the Secretary's functions for the past month or so, as well as his own. Bill himself is still recovering from hip surgery, an infection, and the resulting heart surgery, so Bill certainly did not need to double up on responsibilities, especially before, during and after setting up a reunion. We needed a Secretary ASAP.
The next three finishers (Lee Longe, Larry Kendall, and Bill Weldon) each had the same number of votes, so the Board decided to have an emergency tie-breaker.
By a show of hands, Lee Longe was elected AFFR Association Secretary. This was an emergency measure performed during the reunion in a time of need. I understand that some people may feel left out for not being able to mail in a ballot, but an election by mail would have taken at least another month, leaving the Secretary's duties on Bill during that length of time.
It's great to have Oscar back on the Board of Directors, and Lee bent over backward to make me feel welcome at my first reunion years ago. He never meets a stranger, and will work hard to keep things running smoothly.
The next reunion will be held at Quantico sometime in October 2009.
See you there!
I'm Stretch, and I approve this message.
