Bill Young just called me to report that Phil Wipperman passed away late Friday night. Fritz and Rose Marie Weinreich dropped by Phil's place to check on him on their way back home from the reunion, and learned the news. They passed the report on to Bill, and also stated that Phil's funeral was this afternoon at 1 pm. I looked for an obituary, but all I could find was this: (scroll down to the bottom) www.buffalonews.com/obituaries/story/193963.htmlVery few members have ever done more for the good of our Association than Phil Wipperman. We was a friend to everyone, giving 110% effort to anyone who needed help. Men like that are few and far between. Semper Fidelis, Phil. Rest easy now. You've earned it.

Phil will be missed. We had any a conversation over the net. My condolences to his family. We joked about my wife putting a members name on the prayer chain where she works, it's a convent with over 1,000 members. The joke would be "It could'nt hurt".
Rest in peace Marine you WI*LL be missed.

This sure is some bad news, as people have said he will be missed a lot. Phil is in a better place now and he is with out pain now. He is now resting and looking back down at all of us. Phil is among a outstanding group of Crash Crewmen. Phil worked for me in Iwakuni, Japan in 1966
Semper Fi old friend

Stretch, You are a contact point within officer's ranks' of this organization; I as a new comer heard the discussion of getting a 'West Coast Chapter' of the AFFR association. Looking at the 2/1/07 Member list, there are a bunch located out there. In order too include them,'Our Recruiter' & Management need to float the idea that a Reunion for the off years & they need to get started? First reunion at MCAS, Miramar,CA around the same time frame as here-next year? The second one would be from Hawaii/Oahu/Kaneohe Bay in 2010 ? Or do you just want to go back & forth-not losing those you have in the current organization? Plus the AFFR has gained additional new members since then ;of which I am one. What do you all think?-Rich W.

If you will, allow me to answer your questions in a new thread, so as to not hijack this thread about Phil.

As I read that Phil had passed away, I thought of all the times I had talked with him and the reunions that we had attended. Phil was Mr. Crash Crew, he loved the association and was it's best advocate. He will be solely missed, not only because of his dedication to the Crash Crew Association, but also because of how true a friend he was to so many.
