Good morning everyone,
Sorry I haven't been on the boards. Judy was sick and then me. I guess I got a little stressed about Judy and came down with the Shingles. It is a form of chicken pox and if you ever had chicken pox you probley have it in your system. Stress is a strange thing. Anyone who ever had Shingles would agree with me that it hurts like 3 M?%$#@f$#@&*@. LOL Talk later. Semper Fi JoeD.

Hi Joe, Hope you and Judy are completely on the mend and enjoying some great springtime doings! Man I can relate to the shingles! I had them about 30 years ago and It wasn't a fun time!! Rich is out here on the Left Coast visiting and we had a very productive and pleasant visit at MCAS Miramar yesterday. The Crash Chief gave us a nice tour of the crew and was very positive about AFFR so we left him some applications and will shoot for a west coast reunion there in 2010. So unstress my brother!!!...Semper Fi!....Dale

JoeD- Sounds good you are on the mend & that Judy is getting better! Sorry,I didn't get back to you sooner-I was out running around with 'Swanny' on the Left Coast & was working on the '2010 Reunion'. As of now,we are thinking on having it at the 'O' Club on MCAS ,Miramar,CA. Hey, you went aboard MCAS,Beaufort,SC;did you ever hear of any of the 'Crash Crew' there joining the organization? Swanny & I hit the NCOIC/Crash Chief of the Crew there at MCAR,Miramar & let him know of the AFFR Association ;plus we left applications so individual active duty personnel could apply? 8-)Semper Fi-The Crazy Old Man-RichW/49

Rich, Thanks for asking. Weather has been crazy, where i live we are high enough not to get any flooding. We had 7 inches of rain last Wednesday, 4 more Thursday, 2 more Sat. night. Got a little seepage in the basement. My back yard has a creek that runs through it, we have lost about 10 feet of land and several trees. I told Nikki that we now own land from Red Oak Iowa to the gulf coast, not much we can do with it though. Wednesday's forecast is for more bad weather, ready to move back to Colorado.

NAS Memphis is gone. It was closed in '96, and it's schools moved to other military bases. The Marine Corps Crash Crew school is now at Goodfellow Air Force Base, San Angelo, TX, along with the other branches' firefighting schools. I believe, however, that the Navy still has their shipboard firefighting school at Great Lakes, Michigan, since they already had the multi-million dollar infrastructure in place, and that it is so specific to ships that the Garland Fire Academy (at Goodfellow AFB) couldn't duplicate it. Anywho, back to Millington... the South Side is now part of the Navy's Bureau of Personnel, which moved in to most of the offices and classrooms there. Most of the barracks have been torn down. The North Side was donated to the city of Millington and has become their regional airport. Here's a link to GoogleMaps... click on 'Satellite' to view aerial photos, and use the Navigation buttons and Zoom scale to fly around the area... maps.google.com/maps?client=safari&rls=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=MillingtonYou can still see the Crash Crew School area... find Bouganville Street on the North Side, it's a couple blocks north of Navy Road, running left and right, parallel with Navy Rd. You'll see a small patch of woods just past the far left end of Bouganville. The AFFR training area is to the left of that patch of woods. The round burn pit is plainly visible. I believe that (in my time) the classrooms were in the long building at the intersection of Dakar and Astoria.
